About Kim

Once upon a time, I was a kid drawn to the magic and wonder of the natural world.  I was a daydreamer, and to me, nature wasn’t just what you could see with your eyes, it was also the unseen mysteries and infinite possibilities that spark the imagination.

I was always outdoors, creating imaginary worlds and bringing them to life through games.

With a vivid imagination fuelled by nature, I found expression through art.  I loved to draw and paint animals, fairies, and magical creatures of all descriptions.

Fast-forward through time and I had been through school and university, inevitably neglecting my creative side as I tried to navigate my way through early-adulthood – study, work, relationships, and a busy social life.

A famous artist once said, “every child is an artist, the problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

He had a point.  As young children we live with very few inhibitions.  We are still untainted by societal conditioning.  We’re not yet jaded old adults.

As an adult I was treading a well-trodden path, and it felt like something was missing – I’d lost my creative spark.

I wasn’t aware of it at the time, but as I traipsed through adulthood, I began slowly laying the foundations to rekindle my creative life.

I met Jeremy, who was passionate about nature and the environment.  We travelled the world together, moved from Auckland to Nelson and spent most of our free time in nature, tramping and adventuring.

I felt connected to the land and inspired by nature – I began seeing the world with that childlike sense of wonder again.  By this stage Jeremy and I were both becoming amateur photographers, and I even picked up my pencils to start drawing again.

We loved capturing our little adventures and sharing our visual stories with friends and family.

But I was still unsatisfied with the vocational aspect of my life. Both Jeremy and I had a strong urge to live more in alignment with our values.  To live with intention.  To live closer to nature.  To make living itself an art.

So we took a leap of faith and sold our house.  Equal parts excited and scared, we delved further into uncertainty, giving up conventional securities to pursue a dream.

We bought a small bus and embarked on our greatest adventure yet – full-time life on the road.  Tramping; taking photos; drawing; reading; finding peace and stillness; spending as much time as possible in nature.

Without a “real” job and a mortgage, I had more time to nurture the inner artist-child that had been waiting in the sidelines all along.  So I got to work, bringing together all the things that I love most.

Our work is a visual celebration of the natural world – of New Zealand landscapes, flora and fauna, with a touch of magic.

We believe we live in a beautiful country, and through our work we hope to inspire others to reconnect with the magic of the living world – to appreciate its beauty, to see the importance of its ecosystems, to understand that there is still so much we humans don’t know about this world, and ultimately to protect and live in harmony with it, as we are a inextricably a part of it.
